Ahimsa is not only a big idea. It begins with the small choices we make every day.
Birds are meant to fly freely, and fish are meant to swim in their natural surroundings. Keeping them in cages or tanks may look harmless, but it takes away their freedom and natural way of life.
Love does not always mean keeping a living being close to us. Sometimes, love means letting it be free.
🍚 Don’t Waste Food
Every day, good food is thrown into the garbage while hungry animals search for something to eat.
Before throwing food away, pause and think:
“Before you waste, think of a hungry face.”
If you have safe, suitable leftovers, consider sharing them responsibly with hungry stray animals.
“Don’t bin it—share it!” 🍚
Of course, we must make sure that the food is safe and suitable for the animal. Never give animals food that could harm them.
“Food belongs on a plate, not in the waste.”
đź’§ Give Water
Water is life. During hot summer days, birds and animals may struggle to find clean water.
A simple bowl of fresh water placed in a safe place can help.
Keep the bowl clean, refill it regularly, and make sure animals can reach it safely.
One bowl. One little life. One act of kindness.
🏫 A Simple Lesson for Everyone
Teachers can encourage children to notice the needs of animals around them.
Ask:
How can I avoid wasting food?
How can I provide clean water?
How can I respect an animal’s freedom?
What small act of kindness can I do today?
And remember:
“Save food. Share kindness.” ❤️
We don’t always need to do something big.
Sometimes, Ahimsa is simply noticing suffering and choosing not to cause it.
When we learn to care for birds, animals and all living beings, we also learn to become kinder and more compassionate human beings.
❤️ Ahimsa begins with one small act.
Be kind.
Waste less.
Give water.
Let animals be free.
